Too cold

One room is always cold

A single cold room usually comes down to how air reaches it: duct layout, balancing, a blocked vent, or a room that loses heat faster than the rest.

Whole house won’t warm up

If the heat is running but can’t keep up, the cause could be a clogged filter, a thermostat problem, or a furnace that’s worn out or too small for the house.

We can help with: Natural gas, propane and oil furnace repair · Furnace replacement and installation · An honest repair-or-replace conversation

No heat at all

First check that the thermostat is set to heat and that the furnace breaker and power switch are on. If it still won’t start, call us.

Too hot

Upstairs is way hotter

Heat rises, but a big difference between floors often means the air system isn’t moving enough cool air upstairs, or the equipment is the wrong size for the house.

We can help with: Heat load & gain certified sizing · Air conditioner installation · Cold-climate heat pumps

AC can’t keep up

An air conditioner that runs constantly without cooling can have a dirty filter, a problem with the outdoor unit, or be near the end of its life.

We can help with: Heating and air conditioning service · Air conditioner installation · Help choosing between AC and a heat pump

We don’t have AC yet

You can add central air, or a cold-climate heat pump that cools in summer and heats in winter. Which one makes sense depends on your house and your furnace.

We can help with: Air conditioner installation · Cold-climate heat pumps · Help with rebates and heat pump incentives · 6-month 0% interest program

Stuffy or dusty

Dust everywhere

Your system moves all the air in the house many times a day. A basic filter lets a lot of fine dust through.

We can help with: Filtration upgrades · Indoor air quality advice

Allergies act up inside

Pollen, dust and pet dander get pulled around by your system. Better filtration can catch more of it before it reaches you.

Stale all winter

With windows shut all winter, air can feel heavy and stale. If you have a basement, this is also a good time to think about radon, which builds up in closed homes.

Weird noise or smell

I smell gas

Safety first. Leave the house now. Don’t use light switches, appliances or your phone inside. From outside, call your gas utility’s emergency line or 911.

Once everyone is out and safe, we can find and fix the problem.

Banging or rattling

New noises can come from a loose panel, a worn blower, or ignition trouble. Notice when it happens (starting up, running or shutting down), because that helps a lot.

Keeps turning on and off

Short cycling can be caused by a clogged filter, the thermostat, overheating, or equipment that’s too big for the house.

We can help with: Furnace and air conditioning service · Heat load & gain calculations for proper sizing

Water trouble

Tastes or smells off

Taste and smell usually come from what’s dissolved in the water. Treating it where it enters the house fixes every tap at once.

We can help with: Water purification systems · Advice on which treatment fits your water

Scale on taps & kettle

Scale is a sign of hard water. Over time it builds up inside pipes, water heaters and appliances too.

We can help with: Water purification and treatment systems · Installation
